I Dream of Water: Nadia Haji Omar
My work is deeply connected to my dreams; the imagery almost always stems from a specific dream or vision. I frequently dream of water, of several possible water-related scenarios at least once if not multiple times. I believe this is connected to my childhood in Sri Lanka: an island where I first developed this attachment to water. Now, ironically New York and its boroughs are also a collection of islands. I feel very much at home and at peace near bodies of water. The fact that dreams of water are about the subconscious and emotions relates directly to my work.
