In this work Arjuna uses watercolours and wasli to present a sentimental figure shrouded in a vivid intensity of colours, as if they exist in a limbo enveloped by the newness of a foreign place. In the artist’s engagement with themes of migration and displacement, he conflates visual languages from distinct geographies and cultures to coexist in subtle tension. The artist cleverly combines fluid & gestural brushstrokes with the restrained refinement of Mughal miniature tradition – bringing together his academic training at Royal Drawing School in the UK and the Beacon House University in Pakistan.
