With a career spanning three decades, Jagath Ravindra is a leading figure in contemporary Sri Lankan art. His works are characterized by an exploration of fleeting moments, captured through an interplay of colors and a heightened sensory experience enhanced by scale. Blending the Impressionist pursuit of transience with the evocative visual language of abstraction, Ravindra reimagines ephemeral moments through a uniquely tropical lens. His practice strikes a balance between personal introspection and universal themes of memory and existence.
Jagath Ravindra has a BFA from the Institute of Aesthetics, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka (1990) and a post graduate Diploma in Archeology from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka (1991). He also has an MSc in Philosophy from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka (2014). Ravindra served as the former Dean of the Faculty of Visual Arts at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo.
His work has been featured in prominent exhibitions such as the Colombo Biennale (2009) and the Asian Art Biennale in Dhaka (2001, 2006, and 2008). Internationally, his art has been showcased in Bangladesh, Dubai, Nepal, the UK, Pakistan, Korea, and the Maldives. Notably, his pieces are part of the permanent collections at the Xi’an Art Museum and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
